THE HOPEWELL STORY

THE HOPEWELL STORY

THE HOPEWELL STORY

Owner and CEO, Cheryl Herdman, helped create Hopewell because she wanted to contribute to an overall better quality of life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Having worked in the disability service field for many years, Cheryl knew that the services and outcomes could be more impactful if the focus was redirected to the individuals themselves, as well as their participation and inclusiveness in their own communities.

The Hopewell vision involved the creation of a unique service and business structure that would not only put the individuals and their needs first, but would create a work environment for Hopewell employees that would value and appreciate integrity, loyalty, and excellence in our service field.

Cheryl Herdman has worked for 20 years in the field, providing direct management of services for large behavioral health providers. Cheryl and her team understand the service options available, and can guide individuals and their families toward their ideal person-centered plan.  Cheryl is a gifted administrator, who has a passion for helping people, individuals and employees alike, achieve their highest potential.

In her heart, Cheryl always knew that the typical service providers were not created with individuals and families in mind, and that things could be better.

She wanted a better quality of life for all involved;

The individuals.

The families.

The employees.

The community

How are we different?

We believe that individuals and families have a special set of needs, concerns, fears, and experiences that is often ignored or minimized due to cost restraints and unavailability of providers who share their same concerns.  Those concerns center around staff training and accountability, lack of oversight or control, lack of valued opportunities and inclusion, poor quality housing and resources, limited opportunities for employment, and restricted or demeaning activities in various service settings.

Community Presence! At Hopewell we believe that every person has a role and purpose in their family and community. Our services and efforts are centered around cooperation, improvement, and enhancement of the communities in which we live and work.  Hopewell hosts monthly social events for individuals with varying disabilities and participates in a multitude of other events. Our goal? To increase awareness and acceptance for people with special needs.

Hopewell will utilize employees and individuals in organizing social gatherings and opportunities that allow for community integration at the highest level. Event planning will be a collaboration of vocational activities and direct service employee activities through established Hopewell processes, and offered to all individuals in the community, in cooperation with other agencies, and including families.

Supported Employment Services are centered on a concept we call “The Can Do Crew”. This program is individually driven toward new and innovative job opportunities. Hopewell will help individuals through the employment process, help them gain the skills necessary to get and keep the job of their dreams, or help them reach for the stars and start their own service

or company! There are truly no limits. Together, we will find a way.

Facility Day Habilitation Services, know as DIRECTIONS Day Programming, began in August of 2018. We are devoted to creating new and inventive ways to keep everyone actively learning new skills and increasing integration and community involvement.   Day Habilitation services will meet and exceed standards for integration, and involve worthwhile activities and structure.
